Savannah's St Patrick's Day celebrations are huge, the second largest in the United States. With an estimated annual turnout of 400,000 the parade is the centrepiece of the festivities, but the organising committee provide other amusements, concluding with a number of all-night parties. The atmosphere is electric as the city turns Irish for the day.

The parade begins at the corner of Gwinnett and Abercorn and makes its way up Abercorn to Broughton, then heads east to East Broad, north on East Broad and left on Bay. In front of City Hall, it heads south on Bull Street, finishing at Harris Street.

Indoor and outdoor venues across Savannah play host to the Savannah Music Festival. Numerous one-off performances are included among the chamber music and orchestral works, while the "indigenous music from the Deep South" includes bluegrass, mountain music and blues.

Hosted by the Savannah College of Art & Design, this annual film festival features a programme of the best independent films and videos from around the world, screened at venues all over town.

The festival directors choose 50 films from more than 600 entries in the categories of feature, short, animation, documentary and student competition. Each year a Lifetime Achievement Award is presented and there are panel discussions and presentations by visiting artists, as well as film-making workshops for the public and local students.

Led by the 600-seater Georgia Queen, more than 60 decorated and illuminated boats parade along Savannah's waterfront in the traditional opener to the Savannah Harbor Holiday Series. A dramatic firework display at the end of the evening sends everyone home happy

Held each year at Savannah Civic Center, the Savannah's Kids' Day allows more than 5000 kids and families to enjoy a range of activities, from face painting to drumming classes.
